No Book Buying Challenge 2015 – April Update
As you know, I am participating in the Show Your Shelves Some Love: A No Book Buying Challenge. You can see all my updates here. For the April update we are going to talk about avoiding relapse. I am going for the purple belt, so I need to read at least 31 of my own books this year. This is how I am sticking (mostly) to my book buying budget (which was $0.00 BTW: that means no new books….at all!) and refraining from full-on bookaholic relapse??
Step one: Avoidance!
I don’t look up new releases. I don’t read reviews on new books. I don’t go to book stores as much as I used to. I’ve had to go a couple of times with someone else, which was cruel and unusual punishment. I tried to have blinders on, and I definitely didn’t browse or head for my favorite sections.
Step two: Free Books!
I use all the free book sources, especially the library’s online checkout. I go more into free book sources in the March update.
Step three: Bending the Rules…
I have asked my husband to buy me books. He doesn’t have the book bingeing thing that I do, because he is a non-reader. I sent him a list on Facebook of the books that I was really hoping to get, and he went ahead and bought the list of 10-12 books. He is seriously awesome. This is kind of cheating since we share a checking account, but I didn’t technically buy them. I did cheat once though. I pre-ordered Brittany Gibbons book Fat Girl Walking. I love her blog, and she is a super inspiration to me, so I HAD to have this book. This was the only book I even looked at on Amazon that day too, so that is way improvement, because normally I would go to buy one thing, and decide to throw a bunch of extra shit in the cart, as if I was at the grocery store hungry.
